Class Trainers & Special Guests
Bob Wohlers
Bob Wohlers is the owner of Off-Road Safety Academy (www.DiscoverOffRoading.com). He is the only full-time off-road trainer on the planet that has authored three books on vehicle-supported adventures. Off-Road Safety Academy conducts professional Corporate, Government, and Recreational off-road training courses across the Southwest and beyond. Off-Road Safety Acadmey also organizes and leads remote backcountry tours for vehicle-supported adventurers.
Below is a sample of the three session topics - one topic each day, given two times a day. The first day is knowledge development only - using the WARN published guidebooks I wrote and a whiteboard that I'll bring. I will bring enough of the WARN books to hand out to attendees (courtesy of WARN and Factor 55). Day Two and Three are totally hands-on training. I coach attendees while they accomplish the recovery tasks. In my opinion, this is the best way to conduct adult education for long term memory retention.
Day One:
- The Context of Exploring Off-Road: RSI (Remote, Solo & International)
- Off-Road Recovery Categories and Types
- First Actions After Getting Stuck Off-Road - The STOPA Stuck Assessment & Recovery Plan Checklist
Day Two:
- Self-Recovery - Traction Board Use (Hands-On Training)
- Vehicle-Assisted - Kinetic Energy Recovery (Hands-On Training)
Day Three:
- Powered Winching Basics and Accessories
- Self-Recovery - Powered Winching (Hands-On Training)
- Vehicle-Assisted Recovery - Powered Winching (Hands-On Training)
This three-day program follows the primary topics in my book, "The Total Approach to Getting Unstuck Off Road." Which, by the way, is the only book on the entire planet solely focusing on the topic of getting unstuck off-road. Not bragging; just fact.

- Friday 2: Tires, Wheels, Brakes & Suspension
- Saturday AM 1: 4WD / AWD Powertrain Basics
- Saturday AM 2: Tires, Wheels, Brakes & Suspension
- Saturday PM 1: Recovery Tools: Smart Shopping
- Saturday PM 2: Field Fixes: Getting Off the Trail
- Sunday AM: Responsible Recreation (Bring your coffee and listen in! This is not the boring class you would expect with this title! Super important concepts.)
Charlene Bower brings decades of real-world offroad experience, and teaches in a way that’s approachable, fun, and easy to apply to your own adventures. Her style is to break down complex topics into simple steps, mix in plenty of Pro Tips, and make sure every class is interactive and engaging. She teaches at the intermediate level that beginners will understand and seasoned Vanlifers will gain from. You won’t just hear theory and concepts, you’ll walk away with usable skills, a clearer mindset, and the confidence to tackle challenges on your own.
4WD / AWD Powertrain Basics - Understand how your van puts power to the ground. We’ll break down the differences between 4WD and AWD, explain drivetrain concepts in simple terms, and show when (and when not) to use different settings. You’ll build confidence in your van’s capabilities (and limitations) before the terrain tests you.
Tires, Wheels, Brakes & Suspension - Your only contact with the ground matters most. Learn how to choose the right tire, read ratings, understand wheel offset, and evaluate brake upgrades for safety and control on the trail. Then we travel into suspension dynamics and when and why it matters the most. Airing down is usually taught in another section, but will be added for this in-person version.
Recovery Tools: Smart Shopping - Don’t waste money or space on the wrong gear. We’ll teach you how to shop by vehicle weight, read labels, and understand the “minimum kit” for your van. Then build up your recovery kit to include more opportunity and how to add a winch (and winch accessories) the smart way. Tons of Pro Tips on how to use the tools included!
Field Fixes: Getting Off the Trail - Sometimes it’s about patching things together just enough to get home. Learn practical field fixes: plugging or patching a tire, creative repairs with zip ties, duct tape, and JB Weld. We will dive into some electrical fixes like replacing fuses, and the art of safe towing. Learn simple roadside and trail repairs, emergency planning, and how to keep moving when the unexpected happens.
Responsible Recreation: Protecting the Trails We Love - Your adventures depend on access. This session brings it all home with principles of how to travel responsibly, support trail organizations, and put the TREAD principles into action so van lifers can enjoy these places for years to come. Plus, we’ll share resources to stay connected and keep building your skills. (This is not the boring class you would expect with this title! Very important concepts to ponder.)

Brett Siegel
Trail Guide Elite, onX Offroad
Brett is a veteran trail mapper for onX Offroad, who, together with his wife Lizzy, has created and curated trail data for onX since 2020. Together, they’ve developed and published over 1,000 feature trails in the app and curated feature trails used by thousands of users. They’ve also performed government contract mapping of BLM lands across the Western U.S.
For about three years, they lived and traveled full-time across the Western U.S. and Canada, running routes in everything from dual‑sport motorcycles to Toyota trucks, and a Ford E350 4x4 expedition van. Their experience includes extended off‑road and camping trips before their full-time adventure in their Jeeps, and recently a few-month-long excursions in Baja. They design and build their own expedition and overland vehicles, regularly testing them on long, remote trips. Sometimes, they travel together, and often, they travel in their own rigs to extend range and provide redundancy for recoveries or mechanical breakdowns.
Lizzy is a two-time Rebelle Rally competitor. Brett grew up riding and exploring the deserts of Arizona and enjoying the Glamis dunes. Brett brings practical route planning, navigation, and real-world field experience to his classes, focusing on safe, responsible, and repeatable off-road travel.

Scott Jensen
For Scott Jensen, a map is not a guide, but an invitation. His story is etched not on a resume, but on the faint, forgotten tracks of the American wilderness. It began with the simple act of charting mining claims, an experience that ignited a lifelong penchant for breathing new life into old trails. For more decades than should be shared, his compass has pointed toward the unknown, trading the conventional for the thrill of discovery.
As an Evangelist for GME, he now amplifies that for others, equipping fellow adventurers to tune their own chronicles in the wild. From his home in Colorado, the West is a constant, calling pageant. His legacy is measured in the glow of a sunset, the taste of a well-earned margarita-con-reaper, and in the spirit of exploration he sparks in others.

Peter and Kathy Holcombe
Live performance with stunning photography, dramatic video and lively storytelling.
Peter and Kathy Holcombe, known as Famagogo on YouTube, set out in August 2023 on an audacious journey to traverse the Americas in their Winnebago Revel 4x4 Sprinter van. This dynamic duo didn’t even make it to the starting line before disaster struck in Deadhorse, Alaska. A broken axle waylaid their plans for almost a week as they struggled to repair their adventure van on the side of the road in the arctic tundra, while being stalked by a curious grizzly bear. From there they drove almost 35,000 miles across North, Central and South America before reaching their ultimate destination of Ushuaia, Argentina in February 2025..
Join the Holcombes as they recount highlights of their travels along the PanAmerican Highway, showcasing stunning landscapes, cultural encounters, and the challenges of long-term and remote overland travel. This performance features lively storytelling intermingled with cinematic aerial footage and breathtaking photography that tells the story of their heart-stopping adventures across the Americas, such as exploring the rugged, high mountain peaks of the Cordillera Blanca in Peru, escaping a dire entrapment in a salty quagmire on the Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia (the largest salt flat in the world), or spending an afternoon with penguins at the end of the earth in Ushuaia, Argentina. Along the way, the Holcombes experienced broken bones, breathtaking scenery, and extraordinary people. Buckle up and hang on as Famagogo brings you along on the greatest road trip on earth!
Join us Friday & Saturday night!
- Friday, November 14 @ 8:30pm-9:30pm: The Greatest Road Trip on Earth - The Pan American Highway - North America, from Alaska to Panama
- Saturday, November 15 @ 8:30pm-9:30pm: The Greatest Road Trip on Earth - The Pan American Highway - From South America, Colombia to Argentina
About the Holcombes
The Holcombes were a typical suburban family in Boulder, CO—running a small business, owning a home, and living a life that felt comfortable and familiar. But in 2014, after a parent’s serious illness, life nudged them toward something radically different. A casual suggestion during a photoshoot road trip—“What if we sold everything and moved into an adventure van?”—set the wheels in motion.
At first, they hesitated. It sounded irresponsible. Their parents were worried. Their friends thought we were both brave and a little crazy. What began as a one-year trip turned into a globe-spanning adventure.
They set out in 2019 to drive around the world and have since driven across 38 countries. They faced breakdowns, border crossings, Kodiak bears, and cultural barriers—but also found beauty, kindness, and connection in the most unexpected places. This is not just a travel story—it’s a story of courage, transformation, and what happens when you answer the call to adventure.

Junior Africa
I have been in the Off-Road/Suspension industry for over 20 years. I started in the undercar/alignment then moved to the off-road industry in 2004. During my time in offroad, I focused on understanding suspension geometry and what it takes to make modified suspension ride well. We all know it’s easy to lift or lower a vehicle but challenging to get them compliant.
Most recently, I spent over 10 years with Bilstein, gaining a wide range of knowledge and experience on the damper side and understanding what it takes to properly dampen/suspend vehicles.
I had the opportunity to work with John and Jesus 20 years ago, and I am very excited to be back on the team at Agile Offroad.
Join me for suspension Q&A sessions on Saturday at 9am-10am & 2:00-3:00pm
